Amy Critchett

Relevance. What does it really mean? In words? In deeds? In art? In life?

Meet Amy Critchett. Artist. AKA the Mouthy Maximalist.

A master at transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, Amy marries the decorative to the declarative using phraseology layered into color and collage and repeat patterning to express her aspirational art and activism – with democracy and delight as her guides. Nothing is unconsidered.

As a career creative, Amy’s story plays out like one of the intentional light arrays by her longtime collaborator, renowned artist Leo Villareal [they realized the iconic Bay Lights and Illuminated River public artworks in San Francisco and London]. Integral to founding teams at the groundbreaking startups WIRED, OXYGEN and ZERO ONE, she honed her voice front and center during the revolution of art and media in the digital world.

The daughter of bold and brave U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey, and wife to renegade artist and founder of Survival Research Labs, Mark Pauline, Amy is on a mission to transform the world – executing meaningful experiences – one campaign, one project, one conversation, one artwork at a time.

This passion for change evolved her art into textiles and objects, clothing and decor – her favorite canvases upon which to speak truth to power. Meaningful Mixed Media Maximalism is the natural expression of Amy’s creative voice, and the perfect form to transmit and receive her provocative invitations and invocations.

The juxtaposition of the obvious YES with the subtle AND allows us to come to our own conclusions. Meaning-full messages prompt consideration. And action.

“My work has always been aimed at building the impossible or improbable to effect tangible engagement and change. I’ve spent my career conceiving and producing complex and highly creative enterprises, forging communities around movements and instigating awareness through the arts and media. Meaningful MixedMedia Maximalism allows me to manifest something personal, yet universal, and transmute the activism of my mother’s generation into messages for this time in history.” – Amy Critchett

As an artist, Amy folds a lifetime of iconic adventures into texture, tone and text. Her creative process is untethered by technique or training. Her meaning is informed by truth. Every piece – on view on a body, in a landscape, in an interior setting – is imbued with what anyone who knows her understands…magic.

Relevant indeed.
